I think there's an issue with load applet - the one that also allows screenshots. Dunno why I have the feeling it was working before but now camkeyd simply takes over and you get a picture of the transition to the dashboard.

Was this happening before or is it just me?

That's right, you cannot use camkeyd if you wish to take screenshots using load-applet. An alternative is to use ctrl+shift+P for screenshot.

Currently the main difference is that shortcutd also supports the proximity sensor to be used to access the dashboard and to launch the phone application.

Shortcutd will also get new features such as GUI for configuring button actions in future versions. Camkeyd will no longer be updated.

Thanks for the info.

I tried "Shortcutd". I didn't like it. I don't like that proximity sensor feature at all. Everytime when you put finger over the sensor, phone vibrates. Yes, I know that pressing the camkey also it goes to desktop.

I truly hope that the useless vibration during finger over the sensor gets disabled in next release.

@Blinde, it will be possible to disable proximity sensor through a GUI.
I see vibration as necessary feedback when using proximity sensor, otherwise it gets simply difficult.
I can see that for some using proximity sensor as a button may not be an option. On the other hand, I know some people who use this feature extensively. It is all about usage patterns.

You do get some excellent mashed-up screenshots of halfway between the desktop menu and your app. though

The conflict between camkeyd and the screenshot app is why I'm not currently using camkeyd (haven't tried shortcutd), though it's really useful for quickly minimizing the web browser, for instance.

However, Ctrl+Shift+P in portrait-mode takes pictures that are the wrong size, I believe (I'll check if there's a bug in for that.)

Thanks for the head's up! I've just replaced camkeyd with shortcutd and it's working great.

Only question: I can't find the interface to toggle between proximity sensor/camera key/both. Where can I configure shortcutd?

I`d second that.
I also prefer the "old" camkeyd.

Regards.
