Wierd thing happened to me after the firmware update.
I deleted all the my contacts to check the MFE sync with google.
Then I saw that I'm missing skype and messenger contacts (deleted them).
I deleted the accounts and recreated them. Still didnt see them.
I deleted again and created them from the "import contacts from new account" from the contacts application menu. Didnt work.
I was also told that my user appears offline in skype and messenger but i was able to receive messeges to my conversations and even reply them after I saw the user name (but couldnt see his nickname or status). I also managed to receive calls via skype.

How can I get those contacts back?

Apparently, the moment i recreated the accounts after deleting them the deleted contacts were sync to delete my skype/msn contacts. So actually I didnt have contacts on the server so of course there were no contacts on the n900 when i recreated the account once again.

That wasn't a good idea...
