It's really hard to get a a good enough connection to be able to browse the web and chat on GAIM. The only way is to be REALLY close to the WLAN source. Is there anything I can download, perhaps, to increase my connection strength somehow? I want/need to connect to a network that is a little farther away.

So is your internet connection working now or is this a seperate problem (in which case it might be best to start another thread)? 
In the meantime, I've found the N800 WiFi to be quite sensitive and you want to make sure you've selected the 100mw transmit power setting (see here) as that can help a little.
