Doesn't matter. Unlocked or not, the CMT will refuse to work with the version "flashed" (pretty sure flasher-3.5 skipped over it when downgrading...) to it when downgrading which means no phone features (check dmesg). Nothing actually stops you from downgrading; the device boots up fine, but you can't use any of its phone features until you reflash 51-1.

It's not the SIM, it's the GSM radio that won't work after a downgrade.

Because there's a newer firmware on the GSM radio that doesn't work with 42-11.

Let's focus on why you want to downgrade in the first place and solve those issues rather than focusing on why downgrading isn't a viable solution.

I am with Zenali. I thought the device was great after the mini update and the opening of the OVI store. But this latest "big" update has doen nothing good and plenty bad. All my imported videos, that worked fine before, now refuse to play. The device has rebooted 6 times since the update. Features that have been added do nit work. Fast shortcuts? No one knows what that means, and quick dial voicemail does not work either.

I was genuinely excited for this release and it has offered nothing but made my N900 useless as far as playing video is concerned. The trouble is that I fear it will be 2-3 months before i have a true multimedia device again.

I´m sorry to hear this. In mean time have you tried kmplayer from extras to play your old files?

Have you seen any bug report about this?

There are a host of posts about this issue and bugs raised. KM player does not sort the problem, not should I expect to have to load extra applications just to play video that was working very well before.

Granted there are some improvements but overall for me this update is a step backwards. The fact that the next update is rumoured for march means I have a brick till then

Mine doesn't do that, at least unless either it's having trouble connecting to the accounts or my wifi network is on the fritz.

Well, there is one other case in which it happens: When both the Twitter plugin and the Skype plugin are active, it sucks down the battery like there's no tomorrow (which there isn't, when they're both active..it dies after about 14 hours instead of closer to 30)

I wonder what the contingency was incase PR1.1 contained a showstopper bug or random battery drains?

    Tell the customer:
"your device worked yesterday, but its not going to work well for the next several weeks until we fix the software. Too bad, find another phone to use until its fixed"

    ??
