My point is that you won't find 1.5L 1200hp+ motors, that run reliably over a full race distance, for an entire race season, coming out of an American shop/mfg. Never mind the fact that they were built off of used consumer bottom ends that already had 60k km on them already.

Anyone watch the original Transformers movie? In that movie one of the main characters exposed a Nokia phone to an alien energy source to transform it into an evil robot and made the remark, "Nokia's are nasty. You have to respect the Japanese. They know the way of the Samurai." Then another character said, "Nokia's from Finland."

I lived in Japan for three years back in the early 80's. I freely admit that until this movie, I just assumed Nokia was a Japanese namebrand, and I'm quite a bit of a gadget freak. Not the most freaky I'm sure, but I'm up there.

Transformers was a pretty big hit of a movie here (and likely throughout the world), and the writer clearly was poking fun at a common misconception about Nokia. I think that pretty much says it all when it comes to Nokia marketing in the USA.

As for me personally, I'm discussing my new phone options on another website, and I did included the N900 as a discussed option. I'm a little tired of using a two-device solution (Palm Treo 755p and a Nokia N810). My 2-year contract with Sprint is up in a month, and I'm looking at what's out there that will allow me to "re-converge" to one device. Unfortunately, the N900 simply doesn't make the cut because T-Mobile is basically nonexistant in my area. I find it puzzling that Nokia would even release the N900 in the USA when our only carrier option offers the least range. If you live in a large city and only travel from large city to large city (and don't reequire any communication during the trip), you're fine, but....

Honestly, it was very disappointing for me. I was very excited about the N900, and felt that my Sprint contract expiration was perfect timing to pick up a 3-month-mature N900 (with all the initial bugs worked out). Oh, well.

Edit:

PS - And NO....the iPhone wasn't considered at all. I don't want any of you thinking this was a post from a typical American lemming, sheep, or whatever follow-the-leader animal analogy comes to mind!

No, the original Transformers movie starred Orson Welles, Leonard Nimoy and Eric Idle, and...

SPOILER

...Optimus Prime dies.

ohh really?

Because of that customers have a way better choice?

ok do what i can do then in in europa:
I have my N900. My contract now ends with my current provider.
Now i can look at all providers we have here are and choose which ever one i like and have the best offer, my number will follow me and my current phone works just as wel gsm/umts/hsdpa on which ever network i choose.
It just works perfectly and i can choose a sim only (dont need to buy a new phone because i have one) and because of that i get great discount in my monthly payment. (currently i pay 50% of the normal rate)

Like I said before...the US press pays no attention to Nokia because - they don't advertise!

BTW...drags, F!, Nascar, Indy cars, dirt track - whatever, if it's making cars/bikes go faster and try to outrun each other, then it's friggin' racin'!

Formula 1 is the peak of motor racing. Why isn't it that popular ? The lack of good American drivers? Shouldn't be a problem, I know many people from Africa and Asia who are passionate about Formula 1. Is it because it's not run by Americans ? I really have no idea why things like NASCAR are more popular. Perhaps a majority of Americans prefer to watch goes round and round in circles and have lots of crashes. Maybe a movie like Talladega Nights has to be made for Formula 1?

F1 isn't "mainstream" in the states for a number of reasons, but in my opinion, its mostly due to the lack of coverage (you need to have cable/sat TV and be awake at 7am on the weekends), which is in part due to the lack of American involvement (driver/suppliers/mfg), limited events in North America, and the racing itself is rarely entertaining...but that's Bernie and the FIA's fault.

GO Sauber!!!!!!

The same could be said for pro cycling...if not for Lance Armstrong's "successes", I'd bet money that their wolud have been a few years where the event would not have been broadcast stateside..."again".

But as already stated, in different ways, "out of sight, out of mind". Best way to keep something on most Americans' minds is to bombard them with marketing.
