Everything went very smoothly here using OTA.

When I first tried to install it said that I didn't have enough free space, so I deleted some apps that I had downloaded from testing, cleaned my apt archives and removed orphaned deps.

After that, I was able to install fine. It took about a half-hour, with the only oddity being that the window manager crashed somepoint during the update, but I could still see the progress bar

After a couple automatic shutdowns, everything was working great. All settings + apps remained

I had 45MB free rootfs initially, and OTA told me to use the pc suit. I started deleting apps starting with the big ones like the ones from OVI. Got to 55MB still no joy. Started to delete the small stuff , lots from Extras Development. I must have cleared out a problemmatic package at some point, cause it then gave me the all clear and went in like a dream over WIFI.

It has kep all my settings, and I have not needed to use my backup.
I have since re-installed updated dev packages for Qt and Python, as one of the major changes was a move fromQt4 to Qt4.5

Very reassuring to hear that OTA seems to work and that most of the catastrophic cases are due to NSU. However, I read so many posts elsewhere reporting problems with WiFi having become less reliable that I'm somewhat scared off as this is my main internet connection. I'm not referring to the vpnc problems, but the changes in the WLAN itself, which seems to have been trimmed towards more aggressive power saving. Nobody in this thread mentioned any problem with that, though. One feature that one seems to have to accept is that the sshd server becomes inaccessible from the outside (e.g. a laptop) after a few minutes of idleness, which is perhaps only an inconvenience to a minority. Other than that, everybody in this thread happy with WLAN connectivity in PR1.1?

I'm now reconsidering my strategy of waiting a bit more, for I noticed that since PR1.1 came out, OVI store is again closed for me. Not that I really need it, but those little gadgets like the anglemeter are just cute!

OTA (using WiFi) - all good for me. I forgot to do a backup before, and the update prompted me to do one. I did, haven't needed to restore. Everything remained in place.

I did the python cleanup (installing the new 'optified' version) prior to the update. That's the only precaution I took.

All the apps I've installed are all still in place. Videos I've played picked up where I left off in them.

OTA for both firmwares, not had a prob, updating to PR1.1 was easy and took around 10 - 15 mins, got no problems using the device after the update, loving my n900.

Apps i had installed as i did the OTA update:
Adblockplus,
Custom operator name widget,
MSN protocol plugin,
OpenSSH Server,
Personal IP address,
Petrovich,
Simple brightness applet,
Unzip add-on for file manager.

Had to flash. Tried OTA but I got the suggestion to flash. So I uninstalled some programs, to no avail. I did a backup and tried apt-get which didn't work so well. So I just decided to flash. Did it at friends place with a Vista (32) machine with NSU. Restored, no prob whatsoever. Total success, the restore also successfully offered to reinstall all my pre-flash programs, so I did that too. The backup also had my settings so afterwards everything looked exactly as before.
