@ Tiboric thanks for all your help...
I think some of the problem might have been my own fault as I tried to flash the device from Vista 64 bit.
Now I've changed to a computer running Vista 32 bit, but now I can't get the device to initiate the flash mode.
Is the reason why I can't initiate flash mode (No USB icon when plugedin with U held down) because there's not enough power on the battery? and if that is the case is there any way to charge the battery?
I've made a torrent of the vanilla image. However YOU DON NEED THIS TO RESTORE your device, only if you want to restore the 32gb flash card to original state. This image is for all countries and regions.
Flashing on win64 does not work, on linux 64 you need the 32bit usb library. The fastest way is tu use a 32bit linux livecd.
Flashing vanilla from vmware or ms virtual pc(xp mode) wont work. I have flashed the root image from vmware and msvm with success running XP32 in the VM. I was unable to flash from win7 64bit, linux 64bit with 32bit libs works great.
As usual rename the file to .torrent
As soon a s the site is up again I will take down the torrents
Wait a second.I don't understand.I've bricked my n900 and from what I've read if I use flasher 3.5 and RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.41-1.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin
the phone should work.I've read in the firmware updater thread, that it restores factory settings, which in my opinion is a good way to fix it.
Correct me if I'm wrong because I'm tired of this
the "vanilla" image restores the 32gb flash memory, the "root" image restores the root partition so you can boot again.
In most cases you do not need the vanilla image. In fact if you use it, it will wipe all your photos, music, contacts, maps, etc. If your backups are located on the 32gb flash it will be wiped out too.
