hello, just a quick question.

i tried to use my fm transmitter today in the car and i got nothing but static.. is this normal?

best to set the frequency somewhere with no radio station sending near.
you have to set the same frequency (which you've set in your phone) in your car radio.
and don't forget to start the player.

start which player i always turn my fm transmitter on and usually to 89.7 but i still hear static. how powerful is it supposed to be?

Some cars are shielded and don't let the transmitter signal reach the antenna. Trying a different location to put the N900 in the car might help.

Hey buddy, I want to give you a tip to amplifying your Radio signal.
If you have your Micro-USB cable with you then you can use it to amplify the signal from your N900. Easily just plug the USB into the N900 then tune your N900 into any frequency of your liking and enable FM transmitter.

Place the end of Micro-USB cable as close to the RADIO Tuner or Car stereo as much as possible. You may find a place where the signal become clearer. Then leave it there.

This is it. Now you should have a very good FM radio from your N900

If your car is shielded, and you would want to open the shield to receive FM from within the car, this should work:

If you can unmount your car stereo, and connect a long (about 30 gauge acrylic wire would do fine) to the antenna port (it may have a plug, just connect the wire to the center i believe should do fine). Then mount the car stereo back in with the wire hanging out of your dashboard. Then cut the wire to a decent length and dismantle the wire (remove the rubber, but leave the metal center of the wire) about half a meter, or a quarter of a meter or 1/8 of a meter, or even 1/16th of a meter (you see the proportions?). this does not have to be accurate but you would gain some boost if it is somewhat accurate.


If anyone has anything to add to this, or something to change please say so, im just pulling this from the top of my mind, and antenna theory was not my strongest subject in high school.
