Hi. I've just had my first "3 seconds reboot (halt) loop" (terminal, maybe some apt-get, I guess). Before flashing the device, I've tried everything I've found on the Maemo ML, Bugzilla and ITT: enabling r&n and setting no-lifeguard-reset. No luck.
So, sad for loosing "everything", but a bit preoccupied, I decided to flash it. Well, the first time it gave me this:

[all normal...]
Sending and flashing rootfs image (81920 kB)...
10% (8960 of 81920 kB, 885 kB/s)
Write failed after 9175040 bytes
usb_bulk_write: No such device

The second time this:

[all normal...]
Sending initfs image (1649 kB)...
100% (1649 of 1649 kB, avg. 1904 kB/s)
Flashing initfs... Sending request 0x50 failed: Protocol error

The third time this:

[all normal...]
Sending kernel image (1280 kB)...
100% (1280 of 1280 kB, avg. 6338 kB/s)
Flashing kernel... Sending request 0x50 failed: Protocol error

Then, after some more tests with r&n, it started to ignore USB completely. Now it just stays on for 3 seconds.

HELP!

Is this just the "normal" behavior when trying to flash a semi-charged N800? Or maybe the loop bug (or something else) drained the battery and it's now almost empty? (And how on hell will I recharge it?)

Or does it smell of something worse?

Thanks...

I don't know much but maybe this will help... a guy on here posted a message about downloading the newest OS2007 from Maemo to his computer 1st and then doing the upgrade from it... it takes 45 seconds to complete once it is downloaded to your computer... if your battery is low this might be the difference maker. Download it to your computer... then load the Nokia Software Tablet Update Wizard... then change the directory where you will be installing it from (not internet installation... C:\ hard drive installation). Also... try the newest version 1st and if that still doesn't work maybe an older version.

In addition to what euchreprof said, you might want to try leaving it charging overnight before reflashing. The low-level charging system is probably untouched, even if the subsystem that displays the "charging" icon is corrupted.

Yes, itīs really sad that a depleted battery is requiring a reflash in order to get the charger to start again. I would try to get hold of a Nokia E91 mobile phone to give the battery a helping hand...

Hi, and thanks. [To euchreprof] I'm using the Linux flasher, and the image was on the disk. So, yes, it should take a minute. Didn't work.

[To convulted] I've tried to charge it. It goes in (another) loop: Nokia image, green recharging (?) icon on white background, standard cursor (!), then black with the cursor and "Charging" written in white the middle, then from the start, Nokia image, etc. Loop time: ~30 seconds.

Do you think it is actually getting charged? If it starts to smell funny...

Thanks.

I hope it's solved. After some hours of charging, even with the 30 seconds loop, I was able to flash it. Lost my installed apps, lost some non-backed-up to-do list, lost some faith in the red pill, lost some time, but I still have a working N800...

Thanks.
