    [Boot Video] WOPR Countdown

Inspired by the amazing boot videos Claesbas and Lacedaemon have posted, I decided to have a crack at doing one for myself.

I wanted something a bit more subtle and quiet, so I pulled a short clip (~5s) from one of my favourite movies of all time that I think fits perfectly in this setting

Preview and download the .mp4 file here

    Direct Download

    UPDATE:

After living with this for a bit, I decided to tweak it just a bit and I've changed the way it fades out at the end. It's really just a minor thing, but I think it fits a bit better with the timing of the beeps now..

The links above now point to the new version.

I kept the filename the same, so there is no need to edit default.conf if you swap them, just replace the old version of the movie with the new one.

    To use:
    • Copy the video to /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media
    • Go to /etc/hildon-welcome.d/ and edit the default.conf file, replacing filename=Hands-v32-h264.avi with filename=WOPR_Welcome_r3.mp4
    • Reboot

EDIT: If you've updated to PR1.2, please use the following instructions:
    • Copy the video to /opt/usr/share/hildon-welcome/media
    • Go to /etc/hildon-welcome.d/ and edit the default.conf file, replacing filename=Hands-v32-h264.avi with filename=WOPR_Welcome_r3.mp4
    • Reboot

    Feedback greatly appreciated -- Enjoy!

Hmm.. yeah I just tried that myself -- sorry.

The video won't preview on the device, but if you 'mouse' around with your finger, the download link will appear and allow you to save it (opening with Media Player doesn't seem to work, which could be related to the PR1.1 streaming bug.. not sure).

But never mind all that, here's a direct link to the file instead (seems to open in Media Player just fine for previewing)

    Glad you like it

I can't help but thinking the N900 could probably compute circles around the ol' WOPR these days..

    Thanks!

Yeah, using either link I posted will allow you to save it to your N900 (filesize is about 880K FYI)..

The direct link will allow you to view it directly in the Media Player without keeping it around if you're in MicroB and just want a preview.
