Inspired by the amazing boot videos Claesbas and Lacedaemon have posted, I decided to have a crack at doing one for myself.
I wanted something a bit more subtle and quiet, so I pulled a short clip (~5s) from one of my favourite movies of all time that I think fits perfectly in this setting
After living with this for a bit, I decided to tweak it just a bit and I've changed the way it fades out at the end. It's really just a minor thing, but I think it fits a bit better with the timing of the beeps now..
The links above now point to the new version.
I kept the filename the same, so there is no need to edit default.conf if you swap them, just replace the old version of the movie with the new one.
To use:
Copy the video to /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media
Go to /etc/hildon-welcome.d/ and edit the default.conf file, replacing filename=Hands-v32-h264.avi with filename=WOPR_Welcome_r3.mp4
Reboot
EDIT: If you've updated to PR1.2, please use the following instructions:
Copy the video to /opt/usr/share/hildon-welcome/media
Go to /etc/hildon-welcome.d/ and edit the default.conf file, replacing filename=Hands-v32-h264.avi with filename=WOPR_Welcome_r3.mp4
The video won't preview on the device, but if you 'mouse' around with your finger, the download link will appear and allow you to save it (opening with Media Player doesn't seem to work, which could be related to the PR1.1 streaming bug.. not sure).
