For the past two days, I have been experiencing the following problem: whenever I shut down and then startup my N810, I get a "Set data and time" box which shows the current data to be 25/04/2008 and the current time to be 4:00AM.
If I don't manually change it to the current time & date, it starts up with that time.
If I do change to the proper date & time, it operates normally until it is restarted.
Otherwise, the N810 seems to run properly.
Anyone have any ideas as to the nature of the problem?
Today using only the battery, I listened to the media player for about 4 hours and still had 3 hours left - or so it said.
Thanks anyway.
Mark
Well, I have to say that I had the same problem (setting date at boot), despite being able to use it for several hours on a charge. As soon as I replaced the battery, the problem (needing to set the date) went away.
My N810 as a button cell between USB connector and 3.5 mm jack on the main board. Judging from old pictures the battery is /not/ soldered in place.
I'll bet it's a backup so you don't loose anything when you remove the main battery. Letting your main battery go dead would also use power from the button power and it's life would be greatly shortened in that case. In normal use withe the main battery kept charged it would last a very long time, perhaps beyond the expected life of the N810. My beloved Zaurus had a button backup for when the AA's were changed and the Palm III's had a large capacitor that acted like a battery for a minute or two when it's batteries were being changed.
