ok... so it seems like it is my internet at fault. when i connect with my data plan over 3G it will load, but only the maemo.org repository. when i try and load the other ones or refresh all sources, it just gives me an error saying "proxy CONNECT aborted".

my mobile provider uses a proxy to use 3g so is that the problem?

how am i going to fix my home wifi and my 3g so i can use all repos?

It is NOT your Internet fault or repository!

It is a new "feature" of Application Manager" after red pill removal. You can't see most of packages in non-Nokia repositories because Application Manager update is not compatible with standard package classifications anymore.

You can go in application manager into menu-->logs and see. I see a lot of messages like

"apt-worker: /var/lib/apt/lists/repository.maemo.org_extras-devel_dists_fremantle_free_binary-armel_Packages"
"apt-worker: Ignoring version from wrong domain: python-gtk2 2.12.1-6maemo10"

So, it sees packages but ignore it because it is not in 'free' category but something like 'user/desktop'

Excellent info for the people that didnīt know it, is this in the Faq wiki or similar?
Should be, so people wont screwup their phones just out of pure frustration.

Seems more then a few in Talk section just wacks out their new N900 and install everything and then goes wtf??? When things donīt "work as intended"

It's not excellent information because OPs problem has nothing to do with red pill mode or application categories.

OP: could you copy&paste the log from application manager after failed operation.

Do I get it right? Not everything in maemo repository can be installed?

But through apt-get it should be always possible, and once one has rootsh or sshd installed, one has that option, too. Or could one produce any conflicts doing so (except for the problems that certain packages in testing and devel might have in store)?

Everything in user/* category can be installed. All applications which anybody actually cares for are in user/* category and visible&installable in application manager. There are much more packages in reposotory but they are not shown because they are not applications but libraries etc for the applications.

I've had those since PR1.0, if it's that alone it has nothing to do with red pill.

Also, if I apt-get update and the simply enter the list of apps, do they show (not clicking "Update")?

As a side note, should I be getting stuff like libs as packages to be installed? It's a user interface after all. I'm assuming it doesn't hide actual apps?

Package 'packageview' has in description

Section: user/utilities

A lib is needed for an app to run but a lib can not be executed alone.

By the mechanism of dependencies, if an app needs a lib it will be pulled by app manager.
Libs are hidden because it would take too much place.

Only packages (application or libs) which have a user/ prefix in their section will be shown in app manager.
Everything can be installed using apt-get.

You really don't need to have the libs show in app manager.

I can program in assembler and Verilog too!

But i prefer C/C++ and perl/python.
