I am having two issues right now with Skype and am unsure if it is me or Skype. I have looked into the Skype NIT forum over on the Skype site and there are no answers to these issues. But several people seem to have the problem.

http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showforum=127

So, I am wondering if it's some combination of config settings that might affect Skype...or not...I just don't know the tablets well enough to sleuth it out for myself.

I searched here and there neither issue seems to have been addressed...or I simply did not have the correct search terms.

Anyway, I no longer hear a "ring" when there is an incoming call. And then the call never forwards to voicemail if not answered.

I am wondering if the lack of incoming call audible ring is related to having used a different theme? Not sure what affects a theme actually has for a system.

The voicemail thing simply has to be something in the most recent Skype update for the NIT's...unless of course I am in the minority of folks with this issue...then there has to be something in the setup (or some app) on the tablet interfering...I think???

BTW, N800 w/ITOS2008 latest build which I think is ??? oh heck I dunno but it's the newest one from about a month ago.

Thanks for any help...

In skypes settings, sound tab, you can pick play sounds, sounds only w/ skype in foreground, and sounds off.

Perhaps your's got set off? This effects ringing as well as other program calls. I just placed 2 calls to my n800 as test... sounds on setting = ring .... sound off setting = no sound, only popup.

there is no way to send a call to voice mail. if i really don't want to talk to the person i sometimes reject the call and set skype to offline for a while, in case they call back. then they'll get the voice mail. this is a major problem with skype for maemo.

that is a bummer...really. I will just have to remember to turn off Skype when I am not actively using the tablet.

thanks for the info...doubtful that Skype will ever fix it as the pretty much never fix anything but rather prefer to induce issues. Hmmmm, I wonder if they hired folks from MS?

Play Sounds = Always

Test calls...no ring

I did install that new 3rd party "brightness control" that also had a volume control. We'll see if that is not at the root of the problem...

EDIT:

Well, mystery solved...the no rings was because somehow I must have turned all sounds off. When I checked the settings (I forgot they were there...d'oh!!) system sounds were set to off...everything works great.

Thanks for the help which made me rediscover the sound settings...sigh,, old age...seems I suffer from early onset CRS...(CRS = can't Remember Shi....errr, Stuff)

i don't know if we'll ever get video from skype, but i think it's safe to assume at least one more update...eventually. since my cheap netger skype phone can send a call to voice mail after a few rings, i think a fix will come. i wonder if it was just an oversight that it was left out to begin with. skype rules as a concept and sux at customer service. wait.. i guess i can't criticise something that Doesn't Exist.

I could really give a darn about video...mostly because nobody I would call has video. It's neat and interesting and all but it doesn't help me in the least.

As for the voicemail...sorry I could not call this an oversight. I mean geeze it's a feature we PAY FOR with whatever services we sign-up for with Skype. I never buy into that sort of mindset because there is no excuse. And if it was an 'oversight' then, well, it should be remedied instantly. I mean if this was MS people would be jumping up and down and stomping their feet all over the place...so no slack for Skype, we are paying customers now a days.

But as I am new to the NIT's I am unsure how Sype functioned prior to the latest version was released. I was busy with other things and did not test Skype much on the NIT before the update for Skype was released. So, the vociemail rollover could easily have never been there

Well, I think video is coming; the handheld internet tablet segment is growing, including ARM devices, and Skype already (finally!) got video on x86 Linux, so I think they'll eventually get that here.

Bringing this back after a year and a bit. The same problem seems to apply to the N900 skype built-in client. However I've found that if I leave my computer always on and signed in to Skype and reject the call on my N900 before the voicemail timeout then the calls get forwarded to voicemail. Hope that helps someone.
