I aI am not always in an area with a wi-fi hotspot, but I would like
to be able to read some of my favorite web pages. Is there an
easy way to download/cache (preferably automatically) a
selection of web pages for later consumption?

I think that if you want to do it automatically the only option is The Daily Pluck + FBReader

I use SunriseXP for this. There's a tutorial here, including download link: http://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/SunriseXP_tutorial.

Its extremely powerful, and outputs a plucker file which you can read using FBReader (search the forums for how to install if you haven't already). You can schedule the conversion process to happen when you like. So I have the stuff I want to read on the train in the morning waiting on my PC to copy over to the n800 when I get up.

There is a java version which is slightly older, if you need a linux version, here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...roup_id=151061.

I'm sure it can be done on the tablet itself using cron ( http://www.anomaly-music.com/cron/ ), wget (search maemo.org applications section) and some pretty basic shell scripting. You could use another program I wrote ( http://www.anomaly-music.com/crun/ -- still testing) to have the tablet connect automatically before.

As usual, I am not responsible if, after following my instrucions, your tablet gains consciousness and takes over the world.

I like the idea of using SunriseXP; then perhaps I can move the content to my N800 via Bluetooth. This will make the N800 as good at reading the news as my Rexx 9000 was when I bought it in 2000! It used AvantGo.

I guess someone could easily create a web site that would make "standard" news sites available and one could easily grab them on a daily basis. I wonder why that hasn't been done?

http://sitescooper.taint.org looks like it could be used to get Plucker content automatically.
