    Hi there,

does rdesktop support file transfer from server to client? If it does, how? I cannot find anything related on browsing remote and local folders within the rdesktop.

    Thanks.

on M$ RDP client, basic file transfer can be achieved by enabling 'local devices' in the 'resource sharing' tab of the RDP connection. The local drives (from your RDP client machine) are then exposed as mapped drives on the target machine.

I therefore assumed that checking one or more of the "Disk Sharing" check boxes on the front end connection details screen for rDesktop would work the same way ... but I just tried it & it didn't - checing myDocs and/or Mem Card's seemed to have no effect on the target PC. Not sure if that's a bug or if I'm just misunderstanding the purpose of those check boxes. I'd be interested to know the answer either way ...

nb - Only contemplate this method (even if it works) if you trust the target system to be secure and virus free; it potentially exposes your n900 security-wise.

Yeah, that's what I assumed also, but checking those boxes didn't have any effect anywhere.

I do trust my own home & work computer and sometimes I need to take remotely control of those machines and also transfer some data over the air.

I suppose you could run a basic ftp server on your target as a work around?

Actually that's what I'm doing right now, but it would be one hassle less if I wouldn't have to run separe programs for file transfering & remote desktoping. FTP also has it's own limitations since it would be stupid and impossible to share the WHOLE filesystem of server machine for a FTP-account.

ok, I'm a total noob both here & wth n900, so I'm out of ideas :-) I'm sure someone will be able to explain/fix the disk sharing stuff as I can't think of any other purpose for that ... good luck!

I also have to uninstall 1.7 and install 1.6 because I'm not using the default rdp port. I didn't have any problem but I'm running it on a XP Pro.

anyone know how to set up a shortcut on N900's desktop so I don't need to type the whole thing everytime in xterminal?
Wondering if there will be a new version or rdesktop that will support using a custom port?
