Hi!

Can someone tell me how long the battery of the N800 will last if I switch of WLAN, BT and the screen and just listen to MP3s?

Using it as an music player could justify spending so much money on a device I do not really need!

Thanks,

Martin

Will you be using the built-in speakers?

I wonder why people rave so much about the built in speakers. I find them quite poor and basically useless except for system sounds.

I believe the OP was thinking of a sort of iPod substitute with ear phones.

No, I would be using external headphones.

In my experience, that gets you 6 hours + of music.

How much +, I've yet to find out (I've never listened to music for more than 6 hours in a row and I recharge often).

Actually, it should be substantially more than 6 hours: I get about 6 hours reading time, and that's with the screen on all the time (Yes, I have been known to read for 6 hours on end; ask around, everyone'll tell you I'm a weird one)

Mèh... They're not too bad. Especially if you just have to see that movie -- and then realize your headphones are a hundred kilometers away.

What? It happens.

Probably, but it pays to ask...

one)
thanks for the quick answer. I think that will be long enough for me. If I ever go on a longer trip I can take a second battery.

I think I will try to wait until the price will be around 300 Euro.

To save a little more power, turn the backlight to its lowest setting, and set the power-off interval to the lowest amount. Even using the speakers I can get a full 8 hours of playback, including queuing up new songs, and occasionally pausing, both of which turn on the light periodically.

Playing video, just for reference, tends to run down the battery after about 2-3 hours.

By the way, the speakers, as noted by others, aren't great, but it is nice to have it sitting on my office desk, playing at relatively low volume, and not be tethered to a set of headphones like I would be with other players. No worse sound than a lot of small radios.

Well on my 770, I'll use mine to fall asleep to with music, in the morning 8 hours later it's still running.

experimented today.

trial #1: with ear-bud headphones, played mp3 podcast on stock media player for 5 hours while playing games like freeciv and chess etc... networking turned off for the most part.
