they claim 1080P playback from mkv containers, so i think it should work.

do note, the upgrade from the smartq5 is dedicated video decoder hardware, while the rest stays mostly the same.

the smartq5 had something similar btw, and used a mplayer variant with unshared modifications, so expect the same here. That is, if one installs something other then the official firmware, playback may be a problem.

and as we are talking about a chinese company that have no external presence, good luck dragging them to court for GPL breach...

Dragging them to court? Maybe kindly asking them first would be a good idea ;-)

(Although I imagine the real problem lies in the Samsung kernel module for SmartQ5)

Wow. If you don't need the phone-ish features of the N900 and don't mind using an OSK only, that's a much better deal.

I looked at it and from the forums it would seem that as a tablet for Linux geeks who don't need a phone, this could be the answer. Supposedly the Android implementation is very slow and WinCE isn't much better. The device seems to ship with older versions of the firmware and Ubuntu but after updating the Linux crowd seems pretty positive.

i guess android is slow as the device uses arm11 rather then cortex.
