    Fouled-up Maemo Mapper on N810

I did do a search and while there are LOTS of threads on MM, I didn't find anything that solved my issue.

I run MM2.6.2 on an N810 with the "latest" stock firmware off of the SDcard. Once upon a time everything worked awesomely, however that was so long ago that I really don't remember when. The first piece of functionality to go was the GPS.

When I would start MM the status bubble saying "Searching for GPS receiver" would pop up again and again. It would pop up once, and the GPS icon would show up. Seconds later it would pop up again and the GPS icon would go away. Rinse/repeat. It NEVER attained a GPS lock like this. My work around, let GPXView get the GPS lock and then switch to MM. This worked.

The next piece of functionality I noticed going away was the Velocity Vector. One day it just wasn't there. Not a big deal as my car came with a "backup" but I liked having the one in the app.

Finally the turn-by-turn directions pop-up left me. I have installed flite and can't remember if the disappearance of the turn-by-turn was around that same time frame or if it is at all relevenant (I'm in no way trying to accuse the flite developers).

For all of these items I turn the functionality off, and turn it back on again and there is no change. I uninstalled MM, deleted the .mapper directory, reinstalled, and still no fix.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The internal GPS can be a quirky and slow to get a fix. I bought a separate Bluetooth GPS receiver and now always get a fix much more quickly. As to Velocity Vector I don't recognize that term. Dispite writing the Maemo Mapper Howto http://fragostech.com/MaemoMapper/ my only experience with GPS navigation is with the N810. You may find my Howto useful as I have a lot of information beyond application use. I haven't seen any problem with the directions pop-up not appearing. In fact I've notice that if I get off route it will pick up again when I get near any other waypoint. Open Settings and the Announce tab. There you will find check box to turn voice and waypoint announcements on and off. You can also set the advance notice timing with a slide bar.
