Most won't care, but I really appreciate the thought that went into this device. It has it all (except a digital compass!). And the lanyard whole is just a nice touch. I wear it around my neck but tucked into a coat or shirt pocket. I tended to drop it when bending over (falling out of a pocket), so when I remembered this ability I was happy.
That's all; just a kudos to Nokia.

Yes, that's it. I happened to have a lanyard from a very old device that works perfectly. Take off the back cover, set the loop on the hook, and replace the cover.

I agree! Also happy for the fact that the hook is a much more solid piece of plastic than the flimsy piece of crap on the N97.

I use one of those with the N95 right now.....It sometimes happens it tangles to something and the earphones pop out..kinda interesting sometimes

I wish Nokia would've included a lanyard with this. I didn't know about this feature, but would've used it right away had one been provided. Might have save my n900 from a recent drop.
