Some facts about Firefox (Fennec) to get things straight:
* it does support Flash but plugins are disabled by default cause the team found they (ie Flash) bloat things up
* it has a number of addons from desktop that microb doesn't. it's an "official" mozilla platform so you can expect more addons in the future
* the engine is superior to microb and particularly in html5 it's much better. notably, it includes offline storage so going forward it will give a much better google apps experience.
* the UI seems to try to go around maemo and while the result is interesting i find the microb interface more usuable. firefox's left/right/top menus are sometimes awkward while panning and the lack of pointer mode breaks some stuff.
Ideally we'd have microb with the current fennec engine. Let's see if nokia updates.
From my point of view, these bars are great for finger tapping.
They are really intuitive.
It is true that when the device gets slow due to being loading the webpages the bars can appear with delay really messing around.
The preferences panel is great.
And I like the idea of the Add-ons in the N900. I use them a lot in the laptop.
Awesome bar... I would not call it awesome, but it is cool!
Of course not better than MicroB but neither worse...
Just different!
This is a complete failure. Until the speed gets improved, I am sticking with MicroB. What is the point of having several adons only to realize it takes 2+ mins to load up a page and at times crashing it.
I guess they want feature first...firefox WAS built to work with extension. It's main attraction IS extension. I guess mozilla want to make sure extension are there when the program is ready for primetime. Maybe after getting extension to work properly, they will focus more on making it lean and speedy.
Howto enable flash:
1. Go to URL "about:config"
2. Set filter "plugin"
3. Set "plugin.default_plugin_diabled" and "plugin.disabled" to false
4. Restart Firefox (I'm not sure if this is necessary)
How does one make the actual change to false?
I got in there ok, but couldn't find how to physically make the switch.
