This tiny steps makes your sipgate account work under N900 very quickly:

Menue => Settings => Voip/Chat Accounts => New Account =>> SIP

Simply enter your account like here:

address: <7character-sipid>@sipgate.de
password: <sip-password>

sipgate.de was my domain for my german account... change this for your country, if neccessary.

I have just tried with my sipgate.co.uk account and get
"unable to connect one or more accounts".

Did you have any special settings on your router?

You need to add the STUN server. If you get stuck then PM me with a link back to this threa and I'll post a set of screenshots. My uk sipgate account has been working fine for months.

Got to Advanced Settings....

Tick 'Use for Telephone Numbers' (Obvious but helpful!)

Username: <account>@sipgate.co.uk
Transport: Auto (might need to play with this sometimes)
Outbound Proxy: sipgate.co.uk
Port: 5060

Tick 'Discover public address'

Keep-alive mechanism: Auto
Keep-alive period: Auto

UnTick 'Auto-detect STUN' to gain access to settings...
STUN server: stun.sipgate.net
STUN port: 10000 (that is ten thousand!)


You should now be good to go. Obviously need to make sure your router isn't blocking the relevant ports or domains explicitly but these settings seem to work on most routers I come across.

which fw do you use?

This worked with both the original and newer PR1.1 update.

The connection is more dependant upon whether you have NAT in your setup. This was the same for Maemo4 and the same basic settings worked for my N810 though a lot less hassle to setup I might add! There is mention of this in the SipGate technical pages.

I wasn't using outgoing proxy.

No longer get error message, but showing as offline on sipgate website.

Trying to call 10000 test number get no audio and call disconnects after 19 seconds!

I'll check what my sipgate presence on the sebsite says. If you PM me with your sipgate number I can try and call you if you like.

Obviously need to make sure that the connection you have can cope with the bandwidth too.

My Version is being reported as 2.2009.51-1.203.2, have you applied the PR 1.1 update?

There is some issues with UPnP on some routers: Sipgate: I Can't Make Any Calls.

Just signed up with sipgate and had it working perfectly in seconds, didn't realise SIP was this easy, thanks to OP for making me try

BTW sipgate website also always shows me offline but it still works fine so don't rely on that I think.

Fargus, what do the STUN settings actually do? This is my first foray into SIP and I didn't touch the STUN settings but it works.

Would you advise setting that up for any more potentially exotic networks I might end up using which requires it?

STUN is a workaround for the problems with using a NAT based connection to the outside world. There is more info on Wikipedia STUN Article

STUN should work even if it's not required so might be worth having a go and ensure it still works with your current setup.
