Did you substitute new vid name for the original video name?
Also, not sure if it's necessary, but I inserted a dash character in place of each word space in the video title.

Ok this is what I did. I renamed the n900 short 3.avi into n900short.avi.
Changed the values in the default.conf to:

    [hildon-welcome]'filename=n900short.avi'

copied both files via usb into my document folder. Disconnected the usp.

opened x terminal and typed the following:

    sudo gainroot
    mv /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/default.conf /etc/hildon-welcome.d/
    mv /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/n900short.avi /opt/
    cd /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media/
    ln -s /opt/n900short.avi n900short.avi

    closed x-terminal

    rebooted device....
    result: no vid playing

Why do you type /opt/? just put the file in /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media/

    Just type mv /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/n900short.avi /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media/

Just followed the instruction on the other post of how to change the boot vid. Smarter now. But I checked the location, and the new vid ended up where it is supposed to be, right next to the original. So this wasn't the problem

Tried about 5 timed....>no luck. I have a question on the default.conf file. The file that I dl'ed from here has this weired symbol, which is a square rather than just a " ' ". Can somebody post how this file should really look like. I found in another post that it should actually be 2 lines under each other. Mine looks like this:

    [hildon-welcome]'filename=n900short.avi'

the other post shows it like this though:

    [hildon-welcome]
    filename=n900short.avi

    any idea

Ok by doing so, I managed to get the original vid back.
guess I'll have to delete all instances of the n900_TV version and will try to uplaod it back. At least now I know what I am doing and I might actually get it there a lot faster. installed leafpad, which helps as well. This way I can just alter the dafault.config right there.
I'll keep you guys posted if it works.
