<-- what he said. it's stable, fast and open, YEP. kind of like the speed of palm, add in the simplicity and elegance of the iphone OS, the potential of the early winmo's (you know, when they were the first mobile platform to offer such a plethora of, admittedly buggy, options) and mix it all up in a giant batter of open-source. (:

i haven't found anything cooler yet

I'm really happy with the device too.
It's fast, it's cool, it's open source.
Couldn't find a similar device on the market at the moment.

I don't usually like responding to provocative threads...

Bought it, then worried that it would auto-brick or batt would be totally useless or I would be spending my days re-flashing it over and over again.

But nope. Best phone I've ever had. And I'm not a developey-type either.

It's snappy (so rare in mobile tech, and I'm addicted to fast GUIs, I hate waiting for anything less than an immediate response), it's thorough (I mean, seriously, Skype and Gtalk are so totally integrated), and the interface is sexy.

I turned portrait mode off when I still had my N97 before we broke up, and I don't use any sat nav anyway, so those weren't issues for me.

I'm sorry for sending the wrong message but I'm not trying to provoke anybody. i never thought this thread was gonna be popular.

Im surprise how people defend the N900. Make me think twice.

There's a couple of things that irk me a little (main thing is the battery life not being all that great), but honestly, I don't regret the purchase...

well, a person's consuming habits are very tied to their sense of who they are.

think about it - the title asks whether people who bought an N900 thought deep down that they've failed when they chose the N900. and this is on a forum where most people will be very (fiercely?) loyal to at least the concept of the N900. it's like divebombing into a pool at a party.

maybe something that is more forward looking?
like "how can the N900 be improved with how it is now?"
sounds like the M6 thread discusses something similar.
or something like "what would be deal breakers for me if I was choosing the N900?"

if people who want to know whether the N900 is good or not can post that, and the N900 fans and fanboys (incl me) can either ignore intentionally provocative threads entirely or integrate them into other non-objective rants, then this place would be way less tense!

Anyone asking this question is clueless as to what this phone can do, and probably should have bought a phone that comes with training wheels.
