To save battery life, I have not been using WiFi. I set my internet connection to TMobile. My MEF is set to update ever 30 min during peak time and not to update at all off peak.

ForceaWeather is set for manual update only.

Every morning, the internet connection is set to "Not Connected". I then set it to Tmobile internet. By the next morning, it's back to "Not Connected". If I don't remember to reconnect it, I don't get any mail.

Is there a setting I am missing or is this a bug?
The WiFi is useless, since the battery life is way too short. It seems this did not improve following the latest update.

I've noticed it sometimes disconnects and forgets to reconnect if I go through a subway system (probably has to do with the constant losing and re-gaining connection).

I have the exact same problem, I have to reconnect to the T-mobile connection several times a day, even if it is set to "Search Interval" to five minutes (Cannot imagine that is kind to the battery as well). Anyone else have this problem and/or a fix/solution?

My impression was that "Search interval" was for WiFi networks only, as the searching for GPRS connections is taken care of as part of the cellular radios functions.

A possible reason that come to mind for the GPRS internet connection being disconnected when you wake up is an idle timeout. If it is set as "Connect automatically" then ideally it would connect on an apps request for data.

I've also noticed that the E-mail application has its own settings for when to update, based on interval and connection type, but these appear to only apply to IMAP and POP accounts. Mail for Exchange doesn't appear to have a setting to select which connection type to use to update.

That thread talks about data and calls with edge at the same time, we are talking about randomly losing our internet connection (even when not calling and even with 3g).
Thanks anyway.

I can believe it might time out if there is no activity, but I would expect it to reconnect when MFE tries to check for new mail.

I just ran a quick test when it was in the "not connected state". If I go into mfe and do a manual sync, it then reconnects, but to my WiFi not TMO.

A similar test with Foreca Weather give a "no network connection available" error.

It appears that if there is an inactivity timer, it forgets what connection to use the next time there is a demand for network access.

Since the weather update works differently from MFE, there must also be something in each application that effects whether or not to force a connection.

I am going see if I can update anything on the bug.

I guess I will have to reboot before my battery dies after the WiFi connection.

Hello,
I'm a bit of a newbie - I've only had the N900 for 24 hours (!) so just getting to gips with the phone at the mo... and have noticed the same connectivity problems.
I have accidently come accross a bit of a temporary 'fix' of sorts pending something from Nokia to properly fix it....Well it's better than rebooting the phone every time (I've done it 3 times today so far).

If you go into Settings/Internet connections/Connections and select 'Edit' then select 'Finish' without changing the name of the ISP, the phone re-connects. No need to re-boot!

Bit of a faff, but better than re-starting all the time...

Michelle
