My wife computer is currently being infected by the internet security 2010 virus. It blocks all .exe programs, so I cannot think of anything other than reformat the hard drive. Anybody has any better suggestions, please? I got lucky 3 months ago with similar virus, not the same one, I got out by system restore. This time, the virus also block system restore, so...
Just my last straw before kneel down in front of a virus. i really think a virus attack is very similar to being rape, somebody overpower you with whatever they have, in this situation, their computer skill.

I googled it, and understand the instructions. I think I may go that route. Problems is there is quite a lot of this kind of "so-called" instructions, and I just do not know which to trust. I see malwarebyte quite alot, I think they are legitimate, right? Thanks for the quick answer. I know save mode, you happened to know how to do it manually? Search all internet secrity related files and kill them? I know some regedit too, if it is requires. I need some instructions
I might instead recommend you use a BOOT CD (so you don't EVEN boot the infected hard drive at all) to run a Linux based antivirus to cleanup your system. I recommend using a clean system to download System Rescue CD (http://www.sysresccd.org/Download) and to burn it to a CD (not DVD). Then be sure to print the instructions for how to run the antivirus (http://www.sysresccd.org/Sysresccd-m...Clam_AntiVirus). There's actually a mega-ton of useful tools on that CD that could be helpful for a myriad of x86 32-bit or 64-bit computer problems no matter what operating system your computer is running.
THEN... be sure to install a strong antivirus (I recommend using Avast (www.avast.com) since it's free for individuals and seem to be spot-on much more reliable than the entirely unreliable stuff from McAfee and Norton). F-Secure (http://www.f-secure.com) also seems to be a strong favorite.
I do have a linus boot finger and I use it all the time. But I do not know of any Linux based avirus software, I will look around. I thought about this route before making the 1st post, but have not faintest idea how to proceed, I am glad you encourage me in the direction, I may give it a shot. How do I choose which way to go, based on success rate (what I thought would be) and shortest amt of f**&(^%( time I am wasted. Am I upset? VERY! For a linux antivirus, use clamav. But first, can you boot fine into safe mode (Pressing F8 right before windows xp logo shows, then choosing safe mode). If you do, can you run a .exe file inside safe mode or is the virus prohibiting you there too?

no .exe file, no task manager window (to turn off the virus process), no DOS window either.
I just finished backing everything, will need to do something to reclaim my wife's computer... still upset about the time lost.
