I like the option to disable vibration but I miss vibration for activation/deactivation of shortcutd (very long press). Would it be possible to have this as a child option?

There seem to be problems with a clean uninstall of shortcutd and proximityd. I was trying to figure out what is eating my battery, and noticed these entries in my syslog after removing shortcutd and proximityd with the built-in application manager:

Feb 6 06:19:25 Nokia-N900-42-11 init: proximityd main process (874) terminated with status 2
Feb 6 06:19:25 Nokia-N900-42-11 init: proximityd main process ended, respawning
Feb 6 06:19:25 Nokia-N900-42-11 init: proximityd respawning too fast, stopped
Feb 6 06:19:25 Nokia-N900-42-11 init: shortcutd main process (865) terminated with status 2
Feb 6 06:19:25 Nokia-N900-42-11 init: shortcutd main process ended, respawning
Feb 6 06:19:28 Nokia-N900-42-11 init: shortcutd main process (977) terminated with status 2
Feb 6 06:19:28 Nokia-N900-42-11 init: shortcutd main process ended, respawning
Feb 6 06:19:30 Nokia-N900-42-11 init: shortcutd main process (1055) terminated with status 2
Feb 6 06:19:30 Nokia-N900-42-11 init: shortcutd main process ended, respawning

And it just keeps going until you tell shortcutd to stop. Seems the scripts are still in /etc/event.d

@zuti, thanks, we're taking look at this.
@DaSilva, sounds reasonable, we will add this.

Thanks for working on this guys, I love the new phone shortcut!

Regarding alt-tab, I assume you know Matan has a working solution? Maybe it's not what you want, but I like it. I don't use it though, since it isn't compatible with using the camera key (swapping to previously used window is awesome though,,)

Anyway, what I wanted to propose was to let the volume keys "alt-tab" windows while the camera key is held. No idea if it is possible to block the volume from being changed while the cam key is held though? If possible, bonus points if windows rotated one way when pressing volume up and the other when pressing volume down. A lot of Matan's alt-tab code could probably be reused for this btw (?)

Dpkg only removes files from /etc when a package is purged, which is something the application manager does not do. There will be a workaround in the next version. Meanwhile, dpkg --purge shortcutd can be used to remove all of the files (except config in home dir). Update: The version with the workaround has been uploaded as 0.1.1-3

It has one problem: As it replaces files from a system package, I assume it can never make it into Extras (possible problems when upgrading?). Using a similar solution in shortcutd would mean the same fate for it, and also cause it to conflict with Matan's package.

I am not proficient in the technical details, but I have actually thought of those two issues posing a problem so as a personal comment, thanks for verifying that.

I'll leave the discussion on problems/solutions/workarounds to those in the know-how but from a user point of view I'd love the "hold camkey -> press volume rocker to rotate apps -> release camkey to choose app" functionality to achieve a "Matan-style alt-tab behaviour". I think. Hard to be sure before trying it in practice of course..

He works well with the proximity sensor.

With the button on the camera. Whenever I press the camera opens its program.

You only need to press it lightly, not all the way down.

Its simply awesome. thanks a lot guys coz when I use my fren's n900 without this installed, though it wasn't much of a problem before, I just feel sooo uncomfortable switching applications. It's made n900 even more adorable...

Ok, I have the 'extras-testing' version of this. Where do I vote? being able to use the 'back' button without opening the keyboard is just... perfect.
