I'm located in Singapore, my carrier name is MobileOne (M1) for short. Only 3 main carriers, M1 being the cheapest (marginally). All 3 carriers offer similar price plans, prices differ maybe at most of $5.
$SGD36 (that's about US$26) a month gives you :
100 min free outgoing voice/video calls
500 texts
free unlimited incoming calls
12GB data monthly
additional perks are that if you're a student (until university level) you get free unlimited texts (anywhere within the country) and outgoing voice/video calls (only if you're on campus.)
i'm a student so i get to enjoy the free unlimited texts and outgoing calls.
we're pretty much addicted to mobile devices. Mobile phone penetration rate is 130+% here. for every 1 person in the country, there's 1.3 mobile line subscriptions.
we have more mobile lines than people in the country, i guess that's why google decided to select our country as one of the initial countries to ship the nexus one directly to.
Wait, 12 hours? that's pretty good. Mine lasts barely 8 after some browsing with wifi, playing some drnosnes and oh yeah.. talking on the phone haha.

well in settings you can specify the time the phone will look for wlans. you can set it from minutes to several hours. what was your setting thelushlife? anyways it seems that once a sevice, e.g. mail for exchange requests an IP-connection, the wlan connects and stays connected. would be nice if it would disconnect after some minutes without traffic.
I've had two days from mine, using the wifi switcher, setting it to 3g only, display brightness on 3 and disconnecting the internet connection after each use, quiting apps when they're not in use etc.
I used it quite frequently, i rarely put it down.
It did have 2 or 3 minutes plugged into usb around lunch on day 1 while transfering the quake 3 paks over.

my setting (for my 3g) is the default of 10min. the 'use wlan if available' setting was checked. i'm not sure if there is an option for the wlan to auto-disconnect after not being able to find a preferred network. i think not, hence the need for wifi-switcher.
i agree with nifton's 2 day 3G usage. i've upped my display settings to 3 bars and so far battery life seems to be good. i will see how far i can push it by leaving pidgin MSN online. if battery drains too much from pidgin, i'll revert back to the more battery-conservative jabber with MSN transport service.
skype seems to be a huge battery-eater from the other battery power threads. i'd recommend using jabber to integrate all gtalk, msn, aim, yahoo accounts. from what i know jabber is extremely battery-efficient while allowing always-connected access.
thelushlife, you should try msn-pecan instead of pidgin.. It's nicely integrated like other services. (I think it's in testing or devel). And if you are not on skype or similar, you should try 2G. I use 3G only when surfing and skype on. (Actually skype does work on edge pretty well, too)
There _was_ (Diablo) an option for the WLAN to disconnect after a while... only I never used it there because the N810 spent nearly a full week on battery while connected to a WLAN ap.
If you're getting less than 48h with WLAN on but idle, I'd say your Wi-Fi AP doesn't support Wi-Fi Power Saving (and/or the beacon interval is insane).
What is the difference between wifi switcher and simply go to settings and change to connection to "Always ask" or switch off "Switch to Wi-fi when available."?
