had the same issue.
my solution:
i connected my n900 via mass storage mode to my windows (xp) laptop and right-clicked the phone-icon. then clicked properties and there's a tab where you can check the filesystem and fix errors.
that did it for me

I had a problem with the flashlight app that made it crash the camera for me. If you have the flashlight app installed, you might want to try uninstalling it to see if that helps.

OK . .. cool a reboot fixed it . . . just to be fair I was downloading a sh*t load of experimental Apps so I guess a reboot was in order . . . isn't have to uninstall any thought
WTF IS THIS ABOUT???
Anybody have any clues???
