I would have never believed I would need to post here 3 weeks after receiving the phone but yes: my USB port has come off Last night, Nokia Care here in Belgium denies repair/exchange, saying it's not covered by warranty. Long story short, I am furious. Sent an email to nokia.co.uk where I got the device, awaiting their response now.
Glad that I went online to discover many many other people are having the same issues. We should unite and let Nokia know that we are ok with turning their device into a 5/5 device but certainly not with the USB Port Issue.
This is my first Nokia device, and if they don't take responsibility in this matter this surely will be my last.
Why isn't this considered a faulty issue by Nokia since it's happening to quite a few folks?
Maybe Nokia support team has taken some lessons from Apple and other well-known "let's try Jedi mind trick" corporations. Deny is the key to success!
We do not have quality problem. We do not have quality problem. And repeat this as long as possible and fairy will make things happen. Like for example to Toyota....or maybe not. (funny thing thou when you compare to business where mistakes might mean human lives and how fast you have to confess that you have quality problems)
Micro-usb connector needs just quite a much force to disconnect and it's feature. BUT if you use quite a much force then its your fault if it gets ripped off...capiche?
Hmm.. mine is becoming more and more shakey but not broke as yet, and it still charges and transfers data fine at the moment. I don't really want to vote that it has no issues but I can't actually vote that it's broken either...
Sorry I tried to think of everything. I am not sure how to add.
My USB socket seems loose I have my fingers crossed.

It would make sense to set up such a group Some thing we can send a agreed email from. Stating that we all consider this to be a warranty issue and will take the company to small claims court if not remedied.
Working as a group we may be able to get some help from a engineer to counteract the Nokia paid ones as well. ?
Where would be the best place to set something like that up?
EDIT: One person threatening Small Claims court means little but 20-30 as a group all stating that this is the next step would have more of an impact.
Just showing that we are getting together and really want them to fix the problem so we can remain happy potential repeat customers would have an impact I think.

Yeah I am totally with you. We should start compiling a list of all people who are having this issue and forward it to Nokia, saying that if they don't respond we will take legal action against them.
Can I ask you how yours has broken off? Mine was already a bit wobbly when I received it and after 2-3 weeks of (even though carefully) unpluggings and pluggin-ins it went last night. Took a few pins with it, ripping it off the 'Mainboard' (?), clearly showing how weakly it was connected
Just thinking about this whole mess agitates me every time, I cannot believe Nokia is doing this.

You're right. We all paid more than 500$ for the device and Nokia ignores us. Personally, my N900 isn't broken but I'm mad for all the persons who own a broken one and can't get it replaced. And seeing all the ones who have a broken N900, mine will probably break one day.
Yes, we need to do something, I used to love Nokia but I'm f****** starting to hate them. Really.

To point one I agree. Will point out that we have to do that in an careful way. We need a list of folks with the problem for numbers. Followed by a list of the responses from Nokia. IE they fixed it or did not for support.
Then finally those who are less then happy, have to be willing to have there name included on a list of people who will take legal action if they are not satisfied.
Small claims is cheap and a real option. But providing the evidence that this is a design floor is going to take each member effort and determination. I think we can get a list of people willing to make that commitment. I am just pointing out that its more then a list then send them all in as a threat. and we need help from those who would not as well.
IANAL just pointing it out as I see it. I still think this is a route we have to prepare for though
As for what happened to mine. If you look at the port from the side the socket is recessed inside the plastic and tilted slightly to one side.
Currently I do not have the desire to try and connect anything to it and see if is moves around. I would guess it dose but I do not want to make it any worse.
I didn't have time to read all of the thread, so apologies if this has already been suggested;
Some who has the right skillset and tools could make and sell something like the crude pic I have photoshopped, which stays attached to the n900 micro usb all the time, preventing wear and tear of plugging and unplugging. it's basically a usb plug extender and moves the usb plug so that when it plugs in, it's flush with the side, which means it covers one speaker unfortunately.
The other way around won't play nicely with the kickstand.
Another possibility is to present the plug in the same direction as on the n900, but then I think it would have to be deeper.
it could also be longer and maybe it's big enough to hold a compass, attached via the microusb?

Ok I like the idea you are describing. From your image I cant really work out where the new plug would be. I am guessing you would plug the charger/cable in via the top of your attachment. It looks like the speaker would only be covered if you have the cable plugged in.
