Given my prior involvement with the tablets this is embarrassing to ask but I am stuck.

I recall that there was a way to mask Opera as IE or Mozilla, but I have scoured the N800, this site and the internet without finding it. Memory completely fails me. VERY humiliating but-- help???

In the Mac version, if you go Quick Preferences, edit Site Preferences, then Network there is a drop down box where you can choose.

However seeing as I am on your "Ignore list" you will never know the answer from me, so your loss.

Well I used to have it set to IE but ebay still insists that I "upgrade my browser" so maybe it doesn't do a very good job anyway

BTW: My tablet is not with me, so I can't point out the exact location of the setting itself.

In your .opera/opera.ini file, there is a section for USER AGENT. My Spoof UserAgent ID is set to 3, which is the default. Off hand I don't know which number is the magic number, but I believe that is what needs to be changed.

Doesn't work on the N800.

no no... there was a simple menu option. Where did it go? It's nowhere in the tablet browser settings.

Uh, I don't think that option was ever present in the N800 version of Opera (at least not from the GUI). If you look versus the regular desktop version there are tons of features not available--that being one of them.

I did some testing with Privoxy a couple of months back, I posted a description then on how to configure Privoxy to give you the user agents you want (and how to test it). I don't have a link to the thread, but some searching for privoxy should hopefully do.

I think my old Howto is still on the Wiki. The first part (installation) is obsolete as it's for OS2005, but the rest (chaining proxies and changing user-agent) still holds.
