Hi,

I should shop for my first flash chip (in addition to the one that comes with the package, 256mb if I recall correctly. I've read about modding the OS somehow for increased capacity (2gb->4gb even 8gb) but I'm quite unfamiliar as to how it's done and even more importantly will I lose compatibility with programs or be otherwise handicapped with such modding? Also I'd appreciate some suggestions as to which memory chips have been found suitable (such as Transcend, Kingston etc) so that I'd be better equipped to buy one from a web-order shop?

My second and third questions concern minimo (which I'd need for my Google Calendar) and SQLlite, are they available for OS2007 and how to install them? I looked into the minimal instructions for minimo at maemo.org but the links failed to work, similarly I discovered that SQLite is listed as OS2006 only - any insights/help?

Deeply grateful for any insights,

Niko Kotiniemi

For your SD cards (flash chips), you can use 2Gb without any changes. Some 4Gb cards, the non-SDHC (secure digital, high capacity) will work without changes either. SDHC cards require a special kernel, which you flash to the device - search the forums and the maemo wiki for instructions. You shouldn't lose compatibility with the SDHC kernel. As for which cards are suitable, there is a thread on these forums about that - search is your friend!

Minimo does work, there's a thread for minimo in the forums (titled something about "Minimo version XXXX now available), and there's a link in there to the latest version.

Can't help with SQLite, sorry.

The most common SD card brand here seems to be Transcend. If you get a 4 gig card and something goes wrong and you can't use it as a 4 gig card, you still get 2 gigs, so there is really nothing to lose, and it is quite easy to use it as a 4 gig card anyway. I just now formatted one in Windows XP using a card reader and the N800 recognizes it as holding almost 4 gig. There is no compatibility problem with anything I've tried, and I have loaded practically every program under the sun.

For Sqlite, I went into Red Pill mode (see search for the abstruse instructions for going into Red Pill mode) and had no problem installing it. The 2006 version should work for you, I expect.

I found the correct Minimo installations difficult to find but someone assured me it was easy, so I am probably an idiot. I forget how to do it. Just open your eyes! Once you find them, installation is no problem.
