OK, I’m in the process of developing an internet application, I don’t want to give too much info as its still in the development process and a lot of the ideas I currently have might be scraped but what I can say is that there will be a lot of backend script (a lot of hidden forms, user systems, databases, etc). The actual GUI for the tablet will be developed in flash as it can be dynamic and update without refreshing.

I was looking at the two different models on the Nokia site and I noticed that the n800 has performance boost, but a lot of unnecessary features (like the webcam, speakers, multiple SD card slots, etc) this application wont be for the average person.

I was wondering if the n770 would be adequate for my purpose (the site doesn’t say what version of flash it uses) or if I would be better off with the n800.

I currently have a HP iPAQ and when I use the web browser on larger pages it will almost load and then crash and send me back to the desktop, would this happen on any of the models? the interface wont be very flashy.

Any help will be appreciated, Thank you.

you're probably better off with the n800 if you're going to do flash. the 770's processor is kinda anemic.

if you're going to use stuff like flex from adobe, that relies on flash 9 then don't get the 770. its stuck in flash 6 while the n800 is only running flash 7 right now.

I just did a little research, the n800 does seem like a better option. Your sig says that you have the n770? Are you able to view web pages in full screen? Every picture that i can find has the IE controler at the bottom (zoom +/-, foward/ back, url address bar, etc). Can you get rid of that?

Thank you for the reply.

I have a 770, and I will tell you that Nokia doesn't support it with new improvements like newer version of the integrated Opera, or the flash version.
So, if you are interested in one of this IT, do not buy the 770....

Also, keep in mind that the 770, while still available, is not as well supported by Nokia (as lucky-luke mentioned). In fact, you might consider it a discontinued albeit still very useful product.

Yeah, just to throw another vote on top of the pile, there is really no reason to get the 770 hardware or software wise (obviously). I do, however, think that the 770's form factor is amazingly perfect (at least for my uses) and I chose it over the n800 for just that reason. Well, that, and of course, price .

Realistically, the two aren't hugely different hardware wise. The processor in the 800 is less than 50mhz faster than the 770's, a negligible difference. The 800 does have twice the RAM, which would probably make for more of a difference than the processor, but even memory issues on the 770 can be easily solved by using virtual memory. The thing that would be the huge deal breaker for me is the n800s two full size SD card slots. Compared to the 770's pathetic single rs-mmc slot, that's a hell of a lot of expansion.

Just to save you time, I'll boil it down. If you have the money, get the n800. The performance increase and dual memory card slots more than makes up for the crappy form factor.

thats what i was thinking, i like how the 770 is more of a square then the 800, it seems like it could fit eaiser in a pouch pocket then the 800. also what is the max expansion the 770 has on vram? is it equal to or higher then the 800? i dont care about the cardslots because everything that is to be done with it will be stored on a server, not on the actual device.

The N800 CPU has hardware floating point support, is over 75Mhz faster than the 770 CPU and is using an updated ARM11 architecture/ARM6 core compared to the ARM9/ARM5 architecture/core present in the 770. ARM11 architecture optimised quite a few instructions so that the same code would execute significantly faster on ARM11 than it did on ARM9.

While the changes between the two CPUs are not huge, they're enough to prevent a straight comparison based on clock speed alone and the availability of floating point hardware is quite huge as it greatly simplifies code porting issues.
