    Try Abiword (in the repositories) for a good Writer/Word app. It's small and fast, other than OpenOffice

    Try "gnumeric" - works very well - again much lighter/faster than OOO. I think you need extras-test to install it still.

    Use Openoffice.org in Easy Debian.

    Search for it in talk, qole has a thread somewhere, should be helpful.

    It's a noob friendly process, and I haven't noticed any significant issues with using openoffice. (open in Debian LXDE for maximum space)

    Writer = Word
    Calc = Excel
    Impress = Powerpoint.

    Only problem is with impress - you're a little pressed for space, (slide preview, slide settings) unless you close those sidebars.

    (Other bugs: If the keyboard seems to not be responding, press the power button, and click outside of the menu in LXDE.)

    Hope this helps.

    EDIT: Although there is no major lag, and it works fine, it definitely isn't light.

    Will abiword open documents created in word? I have a file on my groupwise log-in I'd like to be able to open on the go.

    I would think Quickoffice would come out with something soon. They obviously have the technical knowhow, having versions already for symbian, iphone, palm, and blackberry

    I believe it will. But, I seem to remember that it was not yet optified. (I could be wrong.)

    In any case OOo works very well. See my signature for mere info.
