I am looking at starting development on a few apps for the N900. Im a big linux fan and love the phone. However I can agree with alot of users on the poor state of games, dated, lack-of or just generally things that arent there!
I was wondering on what the community feeling was on this. i.e. do people want fresh blood, as in new games developed or do you all prefer to have your favorites ported.....
Apple has captured a market with its apps and has been partly the reason for its success. I mean people are willing to pay £0.59 for a game even if its a little pants but has a good review. I think big or little apps can be created for the N900, the more that come along then the more attention the device will get.
Great to hear about more people getting interesting in Maemo development! Would love them both, for instance, I would love a port of the opensource game simutrans, but also new apps, designed specifically for the device and the small touchscreen interface
A great game to showcase the features of the N900 would be a graphics-intensive cargame, obviously with accelerometer support. And of course a in-game map designer(which of course use the touchscreen) and the ability to download new maps on the go.
So we would like to see cool gfx, designed specifically for the device and makes use of nice things like the accelorometer. A card game is one nice angle. I think i read that someone would like more rpg style games. I do like my space sims like X3 or my fantasy games like guildwars. Little puzzle games are fun though and quick to play!!!!!
I think a port of tuxracer that uses the accelerometer would be great. yes the game is somewhat old - but it is still great fun to play. Features a nice 3d environment and the controls are easily translated to accelerometer.
Well I thought I would test the waters first and then start planning/designing. If most people want a card game then little point me writting a asteroids clone. Either way my initial project wont incorporate mulitplayer functionallity as I want to focus for now on single player fun.
