I just got a N800 a couple days ago, one of the big selling points was that it ran Debian Linux. So I got SSH server running and connect from my laptop to go poking around the guts and see whats there and immediately hit a brickwall (at least it felt that way) ls -F does not work! Huh? Normal Debian busybox has ls -F and every other one I've ever seen, why take out such a useful option? It saved what, 3K?

Is there a replacement busybox with -F? Is there a real ls I can point the link to?

Thanks,

John S.

PS I tried to search on ls -F but it told me the word was too small and refused to search.

The busybox built into the N800 is pretty pathetic. I replaced it with a more robust one. They don't even include ping! I love how they will include a big movie download and pictures and whatnot in the default firmware, but they are frugal to the point of absurdity when it comes to useful tools.

Well, notice how the device doesn't even come with xterm? It was never designed with savvy users in mind.

Not saying it shouldn't though.

If that was the case the OS wouldnt have been open source.

Think about it.
