I was browsing through youtube and one thing led to another (as it does) and i got onto the gadget show links, so i watched an episode then another and another, after 1 and a half hours later i was at boiling point.1st thing i noticed they were so anti- every thing else made in the world apart from sony, panasonic and apple. 2nd they had the ordasity to slag off the N900 (which i know we are on a maemo website so maybe biased) But is a great phone / tablet with minor weaknesses, which since their review have or in the process of being sorted. Due to the platform the phone operates on these problems should not be highlighted it makes people in the market for a new phone with a good web browser over-look the N900 and go for something inferior.
A system which can be improved over time like maemo is a good system to have, it does not have unlimited capabilities but will last the time of most owners contracts or usage.
A pal of mine had a moan at me today about his Nokia N96 (my recommendation) that it has gone faulty with more than one problem, i did remind him that last year after a couple of music festivals and 2 beer spillages on the phone later that the phone will stuggle, he said he wished he got a sony and that he can smell an iphone coming on with his next upgrade. Early on when he first got the N96 he was full of praise of the phone so now i will let him make his own decision. and then gloat with with openness of the phone / tablet he should of got.
the gadget show named the iphone the phone of the year. also gadget tv programme wise they are big fish, but in the real world of all media they are small fish.
this is like apple in the sense they are big fish small ocean of north america, maybe uk. but nokia are big fish in the big ocean.
i loved my n900, until i discovered how terrible it is. Media player ui is terrible, photos ui is garbage, calendar won't sync with multiple calendars unless I'm willing to risk messing up calendars via Ermng (name?), gps apps are garbage and pretty much non existant, and there are ZERO good games that utilize 3d in any way (quake 3 and open arena are cool "tests" but as more than that are useless) and the camera quality is mediocre at best.
I'm trying to sell mine in toronto, perfect condition (no scratches, dents etc), $600 Canadian.
Maemo has been a let down as an os. Nokia messed up here, new phone with terrible software aside from the multiple desktops and conversations. No working ovi services, (maps/contacts/suite). Just a huge let down and upset overall. Wake up, we all were swindled by this powerful clunker.
