Been away from anything maemo-related and got some catch-up questions that maybe someone who visits this site more frequently could help answering (and to save me from having to search through the site);

1) What is the status on Mer for Diablo?
(Were the drivers ever received, etc)?

2) Is there a Google-Buzz application written or planned for Diablo?

3) Is there a four-square application written or planned for Diablo?

4) Is there a Twitter alternative to Mauko and/or will Mauko for Fremantle be back-ported to Diablo anytime soon?

Thanks in advance.

not so sure about 2,3, and 4, but the drivers were received (assuming you're talking about the TI ones).

The 3d drivers have been delivered but are still in a proof of concept stage. It's being actively worked on, with slow but apparently steady progress. Search the thread that focuses on the drivers for more technical discussions

There's a beta application for Fremantle, no word on a Diablo version.

Witter should be available for Diablo although it looks like it is trailing behind the Fremantle version. It uses python and apparently is being highly actively maintained, at least the Fremantle version that is. Find the witter thread for more info.

Diablo is pretty much dead. Everybody has moved to Fremantle and N900. Mer is still in same state as it were ~4 months ago (0.16 is the latest release). So, you haven't missed much I guess..

Thanks (jcharpak in particular).

1) Mer, kind of as I suspected. Guess I'll check in in another six months and see if it is any closer

2) Google Buzz
What I ended up doing was using the Google latitude app. It has a Buzz layer that works really well for people that are geographically close to me.

3) Foursquare
I got the Barriosquare app working on my N810 just an hour ago. It looks nice but is kinda clunky to use and froze on the map screen. May tinker with it some but doesn't seem to run too smoothly on Diablo.

4) Twitter
Thanks, I'll check out Witter.

CORRECTION! EVERYBODY HAS NOT MOVED TO FREMANTLE AND N900!!!!!!!

Thank you.

While Diablo may be on life support, I for one am sick of the assumption that everybody here has focused their attention on the N900 and all things related to it.

FYI: the next time I spend $500 on a device it will most likely be for the ipad. And even if I do, I will not part with my n810 as it will serve different functions.

I have no intention on spending anymore money on Maemo as in reality, IT IS dead! While I believe this, it doesn't mean that a perfectly good device that I already own and use like the n810 needs to be thrown in a drawer and replaced with something newer.

Well I haven't really noticed much relevant activity recently in Applications section or Chinook/Diablo forums. There is activity but compared to N900 and Fremantle it's minimal at least. We have been overrun by N900. But I suppose it was only matter of time since N8x0s are quite old and N900 is much more popular than those.

My N810 also works. However I wish it was little bit more capable. I guess I need also new hardware to be more satisfied with my mobile browsing experience but so far I haven't found replacing device. IPad looks nice but it's too big for some of my use cases. If it's possible to tether iPad to mobile phone using BT, then I have to seriously consider it.

I have been using Firefox since first beta. Really promising browser and I like it more than MicroB. However, it needs more resources than N810 has. If I'm running Canola in the background (and I'm doing that on every bus trip to and from work), it freezes the tablet for some seconds in some cases. Maybe it's the Weave or Adblock running on the background, I don't know but it makes my N810 experience less enjoyable. I would like to switch to some other device but so far I haven't found anything that fits my liking and wallet.
