Hi,

I have two questions wrt to navigation and download steps from ovi store.

1) In my cell i could see a folder "cities" occupying around 1.5GB of data. In some forum i read that N900 ships with world map, henceforth that folder occupys that much. So will this mean, map works with net connections? Also there is no need to go to map manager?

2) When i browse to OVI store, I choose some apps i require. Say for eg., Angry Birds or Bounce Evolution i want to download. So i recieve a link for for these app from OVI store. When click the link from my mob, a file will be downloaded with file name like "7DC95D1F5A7F1636E040050A873255CS"(I suspect it to be a webpage getting saved).

when i click on the file, phone will ask me to select a program to install this.

Finally I am not able to install the req app. What i am missing here?

Thanks,

Harsha

I thought it just came with the regional data, rather than the full global data set. This means that Maps should work without any data connection. Unfortunately, at the moment there's a couple of bugs which cause Maps to fail to pick up the GPS signal without AGPS enabled, and that cause it to repeatedly prompt for a network connection if there isn't one. Finally, the only reasons to use the Map Loader are to update the maps, or to add extra areas.

Sounds like something's misconfigured on your system. What should get downloaded is a .install file, which should be opened automatically by App Manager, which then add the repository (if needed) and downloads and installs the app.

That's my understanding, yes, and this was the explanation given for why the eMMC firmware image doesn't contain any map data. As for how to check what's installed, I don't know. The Nokia Map Loader will update what's on there but doesn't appear to offer any easy way of seeing what's already installed. You could browse around in Maps to see at what point it starts trying to download data. Unfortunately I've managed to leave my N900 at home this morning, so I can't check to see whether there's anything obvious about the data files.

I'm not entirely sure what would be causing this. From what you've described, it would appear that the browser isn't picking up the correct filename. You could try resetting the browser configuration by running the following (in X Terminal) and then rebooting:
Code:
cd /home/user/.mozilla
mv microb microb.old
