I had this same problem when I first got my phone (about a month ago) and tried to use the NSU to update the FW. If you look at the screen closely I think you'll see the Nokia sign (which is initially on a white screen, but then on a grey one) disappear. That's about the same time the buzz happens. I think it's basically the phone switching off and then it starts up again trying to boot and the cycle repeats.
Some people recommended charging the battery in another phone, which I did, but that changed nothing. In the end I was able to flash via USB (Windows XP). I realise you've already tried this and it didn't even work, so not sure what to suggest. I just wanted to say that I don't think your phone/battery is charging in the current state it's in.

I have no idea what hildon-initscripts are but I have a fully charged battery and 55mb of root space free but no update is shown. If you cannot suggest anything, I guess I will see if the update shows tomorrow.

You may need to flash the eMMC as well then. Power off the N900 and connect it via USB first - it should start up in mass storage mode, allowing you to backup the data from the MyDocs folder before you reflash it.

Very sorry, but i've really not time to read 70 pages....
I can see the update, but i can not do it "Insufficient space"; but:
Nokia-N900-42-11:/var/cache/apt# df -m

tmpfs 1 0 1 8% /tmp
tmpfs 0 0 0 33% /var/run

/dev/mmcblk0p1 27649 1946 25702 7% /home/user/MyDocs
Nokia-N900-42-11:/var/cache/apt#
i see 41 MB FreeSpace, so where is the problem?? I tried to move the file
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1159429 Feb 16 22:58 pkgcache.bin
