hey guys....I'm from UK and have been trying to get the new firmware for my n900.....I did disabled the extras repo and refreshed the remaining default catalogues to search for the firmware but the latest firmware is not available there.....then i heard that having extras enabled wasnt much of an issue when trying to download the new firmware. So here I am trying to enable the extras and the normal checking for updates pops up...takes sometime and then comes up with refresh not successful or something similar to that and then "http://repository.maemo.org/extras/dists/fremantle/free/binary-armel/Packages.gz hash sum mismatch".....so anyone out there who can help me with this....i've also read that many other n900 owners in UK have got the new firmware.....besides me

if anyone could shed a light, would much appreciate it....thanks...

Nobody who's running the UK firmware (203 or 205) has got the updates yet. The only people in the UK who've updated are running either global (MR0), US firmware, or Africa/Middle East firmware.

As for the error you're getting, that suggests corruption in the files. Try disabling the repository in App Manager, exiting App Manager, then going back in and re-enabling it. This should force a full update of the repository data.

Oh right...fair enough....that kinda sucks though....lol....any major differences between Global and 203 or 205? How do I find out if I have 203 or 205 or the Global firmware? I bought the N900 unlocked from Nokia direct, if that helps. I'll try your suggestion on the applications and see if that does the trick...

Yes.

In the UK version of the firmware, every time you reboot the phone, God kills a kitten.

Look at the version number in Settings/About product. The variant code is towards the end (I think the global firmware doesn't display a variant at all there). If you bought it in the UK then it'll be either 203 or, if bought through Vodafone, 205. Neither of these are currently locked or branded in any way though. And nobody knows what the difference between the variants is (or no-one's prepared to tell us).

hey mate....just rebooted and re enabled the app catalogues....and while checking for update....a yellow blinking exclamation mark came up and when clicking on it...it shows that there's a new software available but then when I go back to app manager in the update section, there's nothing in there.....so kinda confused....it seems like there's an update available for 203s but then unable to pinpoint in the update section of app manager.....really odd......oh and the maemo extras seem to be working.....
