The problem here is not with media player, but with tracker, which

If you run Media Player it should give you an estimate of time remaining to finish indexing.

Uninstall media player's plugins like "extra decoders support" then restart the media player.
This should work with a clean database.

What helped me was two things which you can try:
remove SD card start player and close , then reput and reopen media player
second jut start one song, stop it and reboot media player
and it starts again indexing.

I had the same problem where resetting the trackerd didn't help me re-index my new files.
I used the terminal (as user) to delete /var/tmp/tracker-user/cache.d this seems to force a reset.
After that, trackerd re-indexed everything great!
