Thanks again krk. I had to do:
chmod +x /usr/bin/run_simplenotewidget
in order for it to work, but now it starts up with the desktop. For some reason it started a fresh instance of the widget, so I lost my simplenote content and color settings. But, the notes I've added since have survived reboots. Now we just need to be able to access the settings menu again to change the colors . Thanks for the help, krk. Thanks for the nice app berjan.

Here is an easier way to autostart the app:

Code:
start on started hildon-desktop
script 
  su - user -c 'run-standalone.sh /usr/bin/simplenotewidget &'
end script
That way the app is started as the user you are using.

I tried this code from xTerm. Did not work. Does it need to run from a specific folder? Does the text "user" need to be replaced with something else?

Bumping here two things:

1. autostart code does not work.
2. Tools is no longer possible to configure

Hoping for a fix for at least the tools menu...

The autostart method that KRK969 mentioned works for me, and the config settings have been inaccessible since the last app update a few weeks ago. I too would like to be able to access that menu again so I could change the font size and note color. Any update from berjan would be great!

you shouldnt be executing that from xterm. you need to create an autostart file in the /etc/event.d/ folder and paste that in there

yes you need some sort of an editor to do it, if you are familiar with vi then try editing it using vi in xterm.
other option is to create the file in your home computer and then copy to your phone via ssh.

There is a new version 3.0-2 today in devel. It fixes the widget load problem - now returns after reboot But the tool bar configure is still way broken

[edit] Posted a bug against it on bugzilla. Developer responded almost immediately ...

He just posted an update that corrects the broken tool config. 3.0-3 is a real widget that is fully configurable - in extras-devel
