First I thought it was related to the theme in use, but it turned out it didn't matter. Any alarm set to go after about 6 hours does work, but it freezes the device, cannot be stopped, and freezes both touch screen and hardware buttons. Only option is to remove the battery. Any ideas?

I assume that you have the RSS Feed Reader Widget on the Desktop and that your device was in Offline Mode? Avoid one of these two factors to avoid this bug. :-) WIll be fixed in the upcoming PR1.2 update.
