Something to try if you have an n900 (more relevant if you are in Vancouver for the Olympics)

n900 directions for birds!

MY STEPS: after launching Maps
1. click Routing
2. Assuming that you are not in Vancouver, Add a target (set from map)
4. type Vancouver City Hall
5. Route Calculation > Cancel
6. Add another destination (to)
7. type Harry Jerome Recreation Centre
8. Route Calculation > Cancel
9. Remove "Your GPS position" from the list 'Set your waypoints", assuming
you are not in Vancouver
10. Let Route Calculation finish

if you fly over the water please vote for this bug.

I agree that route calculation on the N900 is pitiful. More than once it has directed me to drive over land where no road exists (though I do not recall the destination/location I was entering at hte time. I was too busy cussing and trying to bring up google maps in browser as fast as i could..)

I was able to solve that issue.

- Bring up xterminal
- sudo gainroot
- no clip

-$ noclip mode [OFF]

That will do the trick!

*Disclaimer (game cheat joke)

Yea the routing can be pretty bad sometimes...

LOL!

This one takes me back to disabling clipping in Doom and running through walls like a ghost

Another issue is that it takes 10 steps to get a route between two points in Ovi Maps...

Ovi maps is fairly useless, but at least with the update it will follow you.

I can't even figure a way to save the current location. Can such a simple but useful feature really be missing??

Maemo Mapper on the N800 was very good, but it's not properly ported to Fremantle yet, last I checked.
