    Hi,

I have had my N900 less than a week and am absolutely made up that there is a geocaching app.

I use GSAK in Windows (the only reason i use windows now) to sort/filter caches to load onto my device and then export a GPX file with the caches i want to do.

However, when i import this file into GPXViewer all the caches appear in the list as 'Unnamed cache (GCxxxx)'

Any idea how to get the name and other info to appear? i'm sure it'll be something as simple as settings. any help appreciated.

You have to make sure that the file format you generate with GSAK matches the one used by geocaching.com for their files. gpxview is designed to read that format.

To export your found flags leave 'Include GSAK extra fields in report' selected on the export GPX/LOC screen.

    i just downloaded GPXView

i clicked on the top-bar and then on "map"

it would instantly show me a map of my living area.

what maps is it using? obviously its receiving them online.
which is fine, but the description of the program sais its an offline-solution.

according to the description on Maep, gpxview uses the same map render. not quite sure exactly what that means?

does that mean, having GPXView, i already have Maep installed?

It just means it's the same code being used in both programs. This doesn't mean much to the end user but might e.g. show other developers that this map widget can indeed be easily used in other apps as well.

The only benefit for the end user is that both apps share the same tile cache. E.g. map data that has been downloaded during the use of Maep is also available to GPXView.

It stores the map data for offline usage. Meaning that you can go geocaching without being online in the woods.

This may be something i have missed but i was using the precise position to log the position of a new cache i had set but i cannot see a way to save this data. There is the copy button but i could not paste the info anywhere. I ended up scribbling the new co-ordinated on a pound note in my wallet.

i there a way to create a new waypoint/cache and save it to recall later?
