however none of the applications i had installed "followed" along after the update... but they still seem to be present, because the apps i had before, doesn`t show up in the maemo repo..
they are not availbe from the unistall menu either... do i need to format the device?

So you're saying the extra apps you installed don't appear in the menu, and neither in the install or uninstall section of the app manager? This is strange
You could try to start one of those apps from the terminal (for example, if you had mplayer installed, try "mplayer /some/movie") and see if they're still there

none of the apps i had before (apps that were donwloaded as normal releases and extra releases from the repo) are no longer installed after the update..... however, when i accsses the maemo repo, they no longer show up (as if they were installed)

It sounds like you flashed the device, and need to reinstall applications. Check the list of repositories -- it is reset to default during a style upgrade, so you'll have to add/enable repositories.
The english is pretty decent, but a doubled negative was probably what confused noobmonkey. Rewriting your first sentence as I understand it:
"None of the apps I had before (apps that were downloaded from the normal and extras repositories) are installed after the update." You've already said "none" and "after", so you don't need the "no longer". The phrase inside the parentheses would have been ok, but I've also shown an alternative that might be a bit clearer.
