Hi

From your own experience what is important to change in the conf file to get the highest DOSBOX performance?

Yes, I know its still emulation...but how far can you push it?!

Let's see.

Go to offline mode on your tablet and kill off any other background running junk.

Lower the amount of virtual memory, 16 megs is not needed especially when the game or app only requires 1 meg.

Don't install music support in the game or app.

Actually, it's best to just kill off all sound support in general.

Having a game or app on your internal flash rather than a SD card makes for a very minimal boost in speed (maybe an extra 50 cycles)

Set the priority for Dosbox to highest.

Look for patches with your game or app that improves performance on older computers.

Check the Dosbox compatibility section by using google and read up on people's tips and tricks for whatever you're trying to run.

And for the love of God, do not set the cpu cycle speed to max.

Good luck.

Edit:
Also try to find something that has a reasonable, static background so the full screen doesn't need to be constantly refreshed.

Can someone tell me if the config file can be modified to speed up dosbox? If it is possible, how do I do it?

Hey all. Was gonna start a new thread but I decided to dig this one up instead. I've found a way to make Dosbox run CRAZY FAST! Well a lot faster than the stock config anyways. I now have games like Silpheed and LHX Attack Chopper running silky smooth, and Gunship 2000 and Stunts are not perfect, but quite playable and far faster than stock. Terminal Velocity still only runs in slow-mo unfortunately

WARNING FOR OVERCLOCKERS: THIS CONFIG WILL ASSAULT YOUR CPU.

So the config options to change:

in the [sdl] section:

fullresolution=640x480

(BTW, set a key combo to allow yourself to go into fullscreen mode, it's faster)

in the [cpu] section:

cycles=max
cycleup=100
cycledown=100

in the [mixer] section:

prebuffer=200

And that's it! The performance improvement is HUGE!

I've attached my config file for reference.
