what exactly do you mean by anti theft ?
the phone loudspeakers blarring saying IM being stolen or the phone sending a 440V electric shock through the hands of the thief

Ill be working on something to track the phone after its lost, thats the best I could think of as of now

Im looking for ideas, not the obvious ones please

What I used to have on my Xperia was a program that runned in the background, mounted in the rom. When I logged in to a website, I could always see where my phone was, and where I were that day.

    Maybe something like that??

How about your start using all the keys on your keyboard? Don't pretend it makes you gain time, just stop using the "dotspacedotspacedotspace" so much.

dunno what ideas you already had, here is my list:
take pic with frontcam and upload it to some server, sense if it makes sense to upload it by checking brightness first. dont forget to geotag it. (yes i know frontcam sux still, maybe it improves with the next firmware)

do DNS requests (they almost always come through) which encode the geolocation (host n48-123e70-123.yourdomain.org).. for the ones who run their own nameserver they can retrieve that from their logs to find out where it is.

optional wipe the storage (uhm, but careful not to have bugs there :P, maybe acked by some external signal, see DNS ... if one setsup wipemyn900.mydomain.org and the n900 can resolve that then wipe, possibly add some keys here for security)

Have you thought about the reverse direction? We once had a burglar, stealing my laptop and stuff from the office, now i have a webcam and thinking about an app which uploads pics to the n900 when there is some movement in the room and the system is armed.

please bro, write one up. and would be nice to make it capture picture through front camera at random period and hide the picture in a hidden share folder. Then send it to the maemo server or email address.

    Here is the scenario..

an application that just sitting there in the back ground listening to the internet connection, when ever it connect to the internet it will check for the wordS "I'm stolen" and if the word is "EMPTY" then the program won't react nor sending the information (gps address, ip address, pictures, recent phone number, time online, etc".

If the words "i'm stolen" is found then it will record itself all the information and sending it to the owner email address when there is internet connection.

I believe this is way morw than possible on N900, it was possible on the MAC computers. My colleague wrote one for the MAC machines at the University. I wrote a similar version on the PC computers. BUT haven't fully tested yet.
