i have just bought a n900, my question is, can i only use ovimap when i have 3G (data) or wifi ? if not, what are the steps to set it up. if so, what other free GPS application can i use. thanks

you can use with any data connection. 2g, 3g, or wifi. No need to set up anything just as long you got the map of your country. And may be Location-test app to help get a lock.

There is no Free GPS application sorry. Sygic is a paid one and OVI is the only free one. But no voice yet. and you'll need data connection to do search for location.

You can also put the maps onto your device from a PC. That way, you don't need a data connection while you're on the go.

First, you have to try the Nokia Map Loader application. If it doesn't work for you, there are some steps on this forum (just use the search function) which describe exactly what you have to do to copy the maps manually to the N900.
