@shinkamui prefers touch.facebook.com. I would like to at some point create a simple "dedicated" application. Any other devs want to work on such a project with me? Might be a great time and opportunity for me to learn python.
i believe FB & co keep the mobile/light sites intentionally feature-poor, so the dedicated apps sell better...
and it works, as proven by this thread.
Yeah, especially for low end phones too, that way mobile phone sellers can market their low end phones and sell it by stating it "does Facebook" as a lot people are happy with a phone that just does Facebook and twitter.
I doubt Facebook will make the mobile version, and touch version better because they want it to run on low end phones too.
Facebook lite doesn't cut it as sending message is very basic, no photo uploads to the message for example, or at least I couldn't see it. Though I'm not sure if Facebook apps have that feature?
touch.facebook.com
facebook plugin for conversations
facebook sharing service
I feel pretty well covered for facebook on n900 and see no need for a dedicated program. That said, the app for symbian is basically a WRT widget that I am sure facebook(or someone else) could port to something for maemo quite easily
- commenting on friends status on the widget (without opening up the web browser to do this).
- updating our own status straight from the widget (without opening up web browser).
- composing and sending personal messages on the widget (without opening up web browser).
I'd like to see the widget be more functional instead of sitting there displaying updates.
